Functionality 5/5

The MSNBC app is an incredibly convenient mobile news app that has lots of video content from MSNBC and NBC shows, and that’s what makes this app different from others. All the app’s videos load quickly especially when connected to Wi-Fi, come only in HD, have a good sound quality. You can share any video, and in case you missed any important piece of information, use the app’s rewind play. However, if you use 3G or EDGE for buffering, loading might be a bit slower. The MSNBC app gets updates just hours after any show originally aired so you can always stay informed about what’s happening in the world at this moment and what’s in trend.

If you sign in with your TV provider account before you start using the app, then you’ll get access to all the full episodes. However, if you don’t have an account and don’t want to create one, there is a free trial available for you. It lets you watch up to 3 full episodes of your choice for just one month. If you’re a happy owner of any provider’s account, then you can create a personal watch list, save there any of your favorite shows and always have quick access to the latest episodes.

The app has lots of helpful features for your convenience. So if you have a Chromecast or AirPlay, you can freely use the feature of streaming MSNBC to your TV and Apple TV after starting them on your mobile app. Also, in case you started watching something and don’t have any more time to finish it, no worries, this app has you covered. It can save anything from the place where you stopped. Another nice feature of the MSNBC app is a program guide that makes the navigation so easy and gives you simple access to all the exclusive clips, latest interviews, and interesting behind-the-scenes video. The app also opens a broad range of sharing opportunities for you so that you can use Facebook, Twitter, and email sharing anytime.

Design 4.5/5

The MSNBC mobile app has a user-friendly and quite straightforward interface that makes navigation through the app highly enjoyable. The interface of MSNBC slightly differs from other news apps because it doesn’t have the main navigation bar. Instead of it, the MSNBC app uses a multicolored, round menu that you can always find at the top of the app. There is a great variety of sections in the menu like U.S. News, World News, Politics, Crime, Entertainment, Travel, Tech, Business, and others.

Opening the app, you'll see an image-laden list with video content and can quickly pick whatever you like because most of the headlines have thumbnail photos. You can scroll this page until you choose anything that you want to see and tap on it. A window with this video will be opened immediately, and an option to share, make a full screen or start the streaming will also appear. You’ll see the list of the new and past episodes of this show or the similar videos to this one that you have opened. Switching video episodes is easy, you can just swipe it to the side anytime to open the next video.

Usability 5/5

The MSNBC mobile app is incredibly easy to use and doesn't require even a simple registration for you to look through any video episode. The app also doesn't have instructions or any tutorials, but when you launch it for the first time, you’ll be offered to read the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. However, even without reading any tutorials, you will get used to the MSNBC app quickly because it has a super simple navigation and a clear interface. The app also has push notifications feature that is extremely helpful if you don’t want to miss any breaking news alerts. In case you don’t want to get any alerts like these, you can turn them off in the settings menu anytime.

As I mentioned before, there is an option to create a personal watch list and save all your favorite episodes for later viewing there. Adding your favorite shows to the list lets you watch new and old episodes anytime and get always updated whenever a new story or episode is aired. The app also gives you an option to view any content online, but you will need to log in using your account with a cable or satellite TV provider. In case you don't have an account, you will have an opportunity to watch three full episodes per month for free, but other videos will be available for you in a short form.

Cross-platform use 4/5

The MSNBC mobile app is compatible with iOS products that have a version 3.0 or later.

In-app purchases

The MSNBC mobile app is free and contains a good amount of news coverage and high-quality video, but it also has numerous ads that might be distracting. Unfortunately, there are no add-ons to remove it.

The MSNBC app is an incredibly useful and easy to navigate mobile news app that has tons of high-quality video content as well as an excellent feature with frequent breaking news alerts that always keep you updated. Therefore, MSNBC is a good choice for those people who prefer always to stay informed and get all the latest news reports.

MSNBC is an excellent mobile news app that has lots of useful features, interesting articles, and high-quality videos.

I have been streaming MSNBC in every form they have ever offered, so I look forward to the people who have built this app architecture to be replace with people who care whether or not their streaming viewers have to chance to actually watch their programming. I have been in a tech support email conversation (seems like a company like NBC/Universal could afford some phone lines...) and have explained repeatedly that the problems (having to sign in multiple times a day, crashing, skipping, etc.) happens EVERYWHERE, on EVERY DEVICE, with WiFi or data. Still, their canned advice is to “reinstall” or “try on a different network.” YOUR APP DOESN’T WORK WELL, period. Never has. And now - as they other comments note - it’s worse than ever. But you’ve never cared before, so I have little hope that you will care now.

Cons: 1. There is no way to adjust the point where you are in a show with chrome cast. 2. Constant dropping of the chrome cast. 3. Tv subscription needs to be re-entered frequently. 4. Shoes do not save your position when you pause and leave for a while. (Write down what time your at, not that you can get back to that time) 5. Commercials, Its not just that they are repetitive, but trying to adjust your position in a show, or getting the show to cast right you will watch 3+ commercial breaks all at the same time. Pro: Its free and it works like a free app. This is equivalent between all comcast apps, including a total lack of chrome-cast support for the xfinity app.

Criznizzle’s review got it right. I, too, love MSNBC, and the app used to work great. But for at least the past several weeks, the app doesn’t properly stream, and the live news feed is impossible to watch. I haven’t even tried watching for the past few weeks as the constant stream interruption was too frustrating to even bother. With today’s big Manafort, et al. news I tried again. The uselessness of the attempt brought me to write this review rather than watch. Maybe I’ll be able to catch the second round of news shows at home later tonight...
